Wrights Vineyard and Winery, New Zealand – Nicola and Geoff Wright

January 31, 2012

Why do you do what you do?

We love working with nature and the cycles of nature.  It is great to drink a bottle of wine and know it comes from the vine in the ground.

Why do you choose to do it the way you do?

Nature produces the wonderful grapes for us to produce great wines.  It is great to give back to the earth.  Organics and bio-dynamics make so much sense.

What obstacles have you overcome?

Learning by our mistakes.  Giving it a go and Kiwi ingenuity have helped us to overcome not being able to afford to purchase a vineyard – so planting one from scratch.  Setting up our own winery in 2 shipping containers.  When the council refused consent to build our winery where we wanted it, putting a utility shed on that site and clearing another site.

What disasters have you survived?

Heavy rain, frost, sheep eating our dessert grapes, goats on the vineyard.

Are you happy with your work?

Is it worth the effort?

Of course, what else would we be doing!
