Holesinsky Winery, Idaho – Wes Malvini

February 9, 2012

Why do you do what you do?

There are enough organic alternatives to the grape growing and wine processing methods that any given company does not need to add any impurities to their wines. With a background in chemistry, I realized the dangers of processing aides and toxic sprays and through research learned that there are plenty of alternatives. Wine can be pure.

Why do you choose to do it the way you do?

I am a big fan of old world wines and traditional methods of winemaking. Organic winemaking for me is a homage to real wine.

What obstacles have you overcome?

While the organic market is growing, it has proven a difficult market to sell. Finding the appropriate vendors for our wines has been a struggle, but well worth it in the end.

Are you happy with your work?

I feel that our wine is only moving forward. Every year is exponentially better than the last. I do know that we are far progressed from the average wines. I am proud of our unique flavors and styles in our varieties.

Is it worth the effort?
