Stonyridge Vineyard, New Zealand – Steve White

February 17, 2012

Why do you do what you do?

I have been into organics for thirty years and cannot think of any reason not to be organic. Even more wonderful than being proud of what we make for our clients, it is also wonderful to know that our staff can live and work in a healthy environment

Why do you choose to do it the way you do?

We are not a member of any certifying group as we dislike bureaucracies of any sort, and we don’t plaster “Organic” over the label to increase sales. Our wine wins accolades on its quality, on how it tastes in blind tastings, so our clients are even more loyal when they discover it is organic as well.

What obstacles have you overcome?

The extra labor weeding and leaf removal to create a healthy disease free dry climate around the fruit zone is expensive

Are you happy with your work?

Yes love it. I am also a yoga teacher and consider organics as an integral part of the balance of sustainable life.

Is it worth the effort?
